Doris Matsui is vowing to work towards passing stronger legislation to secure better healthcare protection for women.

Representative Matsui knows it’s going to take a lot of work to get the house and senate on the same page, but its a challenge that she is up for, and her driving force is younger women including her loved ones.

Matsui holds early lead in Congressional D-7 primary election

U.S. Rep. Doris Matsui, D-Sacramento, experienced much success in the first day of the Congressional District 7 primary election.

District 7 was redrawn last year and now includes Elk Grove and Galt to the south, a portion of Sacramento to the north, Isleton to the southwest, and Rancho Murieta to the east.

Early reporting from the Sacramento County elections office shows that Matsui was the top vote-getter with 66.6% of the votes in this election.

U.S. Rep. Matsui, D-7 candidate, tours Elk Grove

U.S. Rep. Doris Matsui, D-Sacramento, on Feb. 17 took a bus tour around Elk Grove to view a part of Congressional District 7.

In addition to Elk Grove, this district includes a portion of Sacramento to the north, Isleton to the southwest, Galt to the south, and Rancho Murieta to the east.

Matsui announced earlier this month that she plans to run for that redrawn district, as opposed to Congressional District 6, which she currently represents.

Born in an internment camp, Congresswoman Doris Matsui is fighting against hate crimes

WASHINGTON >> For most of her life, U.S. Rep. Doris Matsui didn’t talk much publicly about growing up in a Japanese American family that was relocated to an internment camp during World War II.

She was born in that camp more than 76 years ago, in a desolate part of western Arizona surrounded by barbed wire and armed guards. But her parents didn’t dwell on the experience. They urged her to look forward, to take advantage of the opportunities this country did offer.
